Nature and climate

Spain is beautiful and various country located to the south-west of Europe on Iberian Peninsula that shares it with Portugal, Gibraltar and small Principality of Andorra. On the north-east it borders on France. Its eastern boundaries are measured by Balearic Islands located in the centre of Mediterranean sea.

Such neighbourship well-redounded upon natural environment of Spain. You can find lush meadows, green lowlands, hills and snowy mountains, almost desert-like districts and small bays and exotic black sands beaches of volcanic Canary Islands.

Spain is rich in nature and it is one of the warmest countries of Western Europe. Average number of sunny days is about 260 —  280. Average yearly temperature on coast of Mediterranean sea is 20 degrees. In winter temperature goes below zero but this is typical only for central and northern provinces. In summer temperature rises up to 40 degrees and more. On the northern coast temperature is not so high — it is about 25 degrees.

Deep climate differences are typical for Spain but anyway it is referred to as Mediterranean climatic zone.

Catalonia

Favourite place of tourists is famous Spanish province Catalonia. It extends for about 250 kilometres from Pyrenees on the north to estuary of Ebro on the south-west, from Mediterranean coast deep down the peninsula to hilly province Aragon. Total square of Catalonia is 32 091 km2.

Main touristic route in Catalonia is Barcelona, coasts of Costa Brava in Girona and Costa Daurada in Tarragona, as well as 10 ski resorts in Pyrenees.

Mostly its territory is occupied by Catalan mountains (height reaches up to 1 712 m) and there is a narrow band of littoral plain along Mediterranean sea. Land of Catalonia is plentiful due to numerous rivers, creeks and their channels. Olives and almond, cork oaks, orchards, vegetable plantations, vineyards grow there. Fields of Pyrenean pine are located on the Maresme coast. It is not a fairytale — this is Catalonia.
